World Malaria Day 2024 observed by Mukti Cox’s Bazar
Mukti Cox’s Bazar, with BRAC and govt. health department of Cox’s Bazar, jointly observed this year’s “World Malaria Day 2024” on 25 April 2024 under the theme “Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world.” Under this theme, the department of health, Cox’s Bazar, national Malaria and Aedes Mosquito borne disease control department, BRAC and Mukti Cox’s Bazar organized a colorful rally and discussion meeting focusing on the “World Malaria Day 2024”. The day was observed in Cox’s Bazar Sadar and Ramu upazila with the support of the Malaria Elimination program. Keeping the theme in mind, a rally and a discussion meeting were held at Sadar hospital and health complex of Ramu. Civil Surgeon, Dr. Asif Ahmmed Howlader presided over the program. Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer (Sadar)-Dr. Titu Chandra Sheel, and Deputy Chief Executive of Mukti Cox’s Bazar- Syed Lutful Kabir Chowdhury were present as special guests. Besides, representatives from different organizations, nursing students, and 100 more people participated in the program to make the event successful. In the discussion, the guests talked about the history of malaria and said that World Malaria Day is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognizes global efforts to control malaria. Malaria is an acute febrile illness caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are spread to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease that continues to have a devastating impact on the health and livelihood of people around the world. Nearly half of the world’s population is at risk of malaria. As per the survey report in 2022, an estimated 249 million people contracted malaria in 85 countries. That same year, the disease claimed approximately 608,000 lives. The guests further said that Malaria is a preventable and treatable disease that continues to have a devastating impact on the health and livelihood of people around the world. So, we have to be aware regarding Malaria and its treatment.
