New Branch opening for Micro-Finance Assistance program
On 29 May 2024, at Nowapara of Raozan Upazila, Kalarpur of Karnaphuli Upazila and 30 May 2024 at Chandanaish Upazila in Chattogram, three (03) new Branches opened under Micro-Finance Assistance program by Mukti Cox’s Bazar. Besides, on 04 June 2024, a new Branch opened at Hathazari to expand the micro-Finance program of Mukti Cox’s Bazar furthermore. In the Branch opening session, Syed Lutful Kabir Chowdhury, Deputy Chief Executive, Tutul Kumar Das, Director, Micro-Finance Assistance program, Branch Manager of Mukti Cox’s Bazar, some program participants and local people of civil society were present and inaugurated the new Branches for operating Micro-Finance Assistance program. In the remarks, Syed Lutful Kabir Chowdhury, Deputy Chief Executive said that Mukti Cox’s Bazar started its development activities since 1996 as a non-government development organization with a view to serving the poor and under-privileged community with special focus on women and girls to make them aware of their rights, education, health, and livelihood issues. Mukti Cox’s Bazar believes in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda that “Human being is a living God, and serving the poor, suppressed, oppressed, and depressed means worshiping the God” and follows this ideology as the organization’s philosophy. As a non-government development organization, Mukti Cox’s Bazar dreams of creating a peaceful universal society where all human beings will live in a society free from poverty, discrimination, inequality, injustice, and inhumanity. Immediately after the opening of new branches, the loan disbursement program started by providing loans to several program participants who had been enrolled already in the Micro-Credit group (Samiti). The Deputy Chief Executive suggested to the present program participants regarding proper utilization of the received loan and generating household income to reduce poverty. This can contribute to meeting the SDG target as well as sustainable development. Tutul Kumar das said, “The loan has to be invested in a specific intervention and the loan money is not to be given to anyone.” He suggested the beneficiaries invest the loan in income generating activities (IGA) and small business to increase their household income alongside extending their business. It is to be noted Mukti Cox’s Bazar is operating the Micro-Finance Assistance program with the support of Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF) in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram and Bandarban district.
