Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) has seen remarkable growth and impact since its inception. Initiated by the German non-profit organization WASH United in 2013, MH Day has become a global platform dedicated to break the taboos and stigma associated with menstruation. Officially launched in 2014, MH Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for women and girls worldwide. Over the past decade, observing MH Day has grown significantly, making a substantial impact on how menstruation is perceived and managed globally. The campaign has successfully united non-profits, governments, the private sector, and millions of individuals in a collective effort to promote menstrual hygiene. The annual observance on May 28th, 2024 serves as a focal point for these efforts, emphasizing the need for universal access to quality menstrual products, education, and period-friendly facilities.
“Together for a period Friendly World”, keeping in mind this theme, Mukti Cox’s Bazar celebrated menstrual hygiene day 2024, where a total of 894, (male-339 and female-555) participants took part, and participant segregated on are adolescent girls 514, adolescent boys 291, male caregivers 2, female caregivers 10, teachers 25, Government officials 14 and social leaders 38. The quotes that drew the attention of all were: “I’m no longer ashamed of menstruation. It is my pride”, said Monira, Age-12, Kanjorpara High School. “The importance of Menstrual Day in our lives cannot be overstated. I am committed to sharing information about menstruation with everyone around me to ensure that the benefits of this day are realized by all.” said, Chaity Dey, Age-13, Teknaf Model Pilot High School. “Menstrual Hygiene Day inspires us to break the silence surrounding menstruation”, said Asma, age-19, at Camp-19, “The umbrella we received will be very useful for tasks like shopping, going to shop for buying menstrual hygiene kits, and visiting the adolescent center.
