Project visit by UNFPA team
On 29 May 2024, Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director UNFPA visited the GBViE project implemented by Mukti Cox’s Bazar with the financial support of UNFPA. Dr. Natalia Kanem visited the Women Friendly Space (WFS) at Camp-9. The guest observed the activities of Women Friendly Space and appreciated the initiatives by adolescent girls who participated in different activities in WFS. Rebuilt after a devastating fire by an award-winning architect, the space reflects traditional Rohingya architecture. Women and their children come here to relax, engage in conversations, learn about their and their daughters' rights, access family planning and midwifery services, spend time with their peers, and learn skills like tailoring. The safe space provides crucial reproductive health services and supports efforts to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. It's one of 56 such spaces UNFPA and partners are supporting across the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. The honorable representative of UNFPA highly appreciated the activities of Women Friendly Space (WFS) and suggested to ensure quality and increased support for the Rohingya women and girls.
