Mukti Cox’s Bazar Holds Training on Mushroom Spawn Production!
On 07-08 March 2026, a two-day training on mushroom spawn production and mushroom cultivation was organized under the “Harvesting Hope: Building Climate-Adaptive Gardening Skills and Knowledge in Camp and Host Communities” project, implemented by Mukti Cox’s Bazar with fundings from Oxfam Australia & The Canton of Geneva and technical support from Oxfam in Bangladesh.
Thirty (30) participants, including lead farmers, community nursery owners, project staff, and volunteers from host and Rohingya communities attended the event held at the Horticulture Centre in Jhilongja, Cox’s Bazar.
In the opening session, Syed Lutful Kabir Chowdhury, Deputy Chief Executive of Mukti Cox’s Bazar, spoke about nutrition and self-reliance through mushroom cultivation. Dr. Ferdous Ahmed, Deputy Director of the Mushroom Development Institute, conducted the sessions on climate-smart and home-based mushroom production for Cox’s Bazar. Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Akbar and mushroom spawn entrepreneur Shamim from Ramu gave hands-on training on preparing mushroom spawn from sawdust and live mycelium and demonstrated the use of autoclaves and other equipment.
Md. Mostafa Ali, Program Coordinator at Oxfam in Bangladesh, highlighted collaboration with the Horticulture Centre for mushroom spawn production, harvesting, market linkage, and disability-inclusive livelihood opportunities.
The program was presided over by Amdadul Hoque Khokon, Project Coordinator of the Harvesting Hope project.
