International Mother language Day and Language Martyrs’ Day-2025 observed by Mukti Cox’s Bazar.
On 21 February 2025, Mukti Cox's Bazar observed International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs' Day-2025 with dignity and solemnity. At dawn, a rally starting from Head Office of Mukti, reached Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the heroic language martyrs by laying wreaths.
Later, a discussion meeting and a cultural program were organized at the head office of the organization. The founder of the organization, former president and advisor Professor Someshwar Chakravorty was present as the chief guest; former president and current advisor, eminent lawyer Mr. Shibu Lal Debdas was present as the chief discussant, and the general secretary of the executive committee, Professor Shormin Siddiqua Lima, and member of the general council, Professor Ajit Kumar Das, were present as special guests.
By singing the national anthem in unison and observing a minute's silence in memory of the language martyrs, President of the program and Chief Executive of the organization, Mr. Bimal Chandra Dey Sarker inaugurated the discussion meeting and the cultural program. He paid deep tribute to the language martyrs and the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising-2024 and decided the contents of the discussion based on the main theme of this year's day "Make Languages Count for Sustainable Development" and "July Mass Uprising: Building a New Bangladesh".
The guests said in their speeches that the movement to protect the mother tongue revealed the conscience of the Bengali nation and the seeds of our great independence movement were planted. The movement of 21st February, the embodiment of the Bengali national identity, and the consciousness of “Ekushey” are awakening efforts of our language literature. Therefore, the pure Bengali language must be presented and represented both orally, in publications and in other mediums.
At the discussion meeting, the main discussant, Advisor, Advocate Shibu Lal Debdas, said that we need to learn Bengali language properly and improve our skills in other languages gradually, but we must spread Bengali language to the world through proper practice and by upholding the culture of our own mother tongue. He emphasized the importance of practicing pure Bengali language in the family and refraining from using obscene words. The Chief Guest said in his speech that the Bengali language is being mispresented and our contempt for the Bengali language is gradually increasing. We must preserve the language that Salam, Rafiq, Jabbar, Barkat have given their lives to protect, through pure writing and oral conversation.
At the end of the discussion meeting, the President of the programs said in his speech that Mukti Cox's Bazar works for the people, especially, for backward women and children. Many languages have gone extinct, therefore, along with the Bengali language, the mother tongues of ethnic groups must also be preserved. At this time, he discussed the ongoing activities of the organization to teach Rohingya children their mother tongue through “Hanifi”. He called on everyone to focus on the pure practice of the mother tongue. Finally, he thanked all the staff at all levels for successfully implementing the program and declared the program over.
